Checking out some Social Networking Sites

Wow, I never knew there were so many social networking sites out there! Does that mean I'm outdated since I'm only register under 1 social networking site which is Facebook. I also visited MySpace, Friendster, and Moli (a new one for me). I found these social networking sites very similar to each other. By using these sites, users can stay connected with old friends, make new friends, share personal profiles, add applications of interest, and customize your page. There are so much you can do on these social networking sites because the creator(s) provide users so many applications (music, art, accessories, message boards, etc.) that a person can have endless amount of things on their page. Also, I notice that promoters for that social networking site try to make personal privacy a major concern when trying to get new people to join. For example, the slogan for Moli is "Control Your Privacy". With so many scams and frauds floating around the Internet, people need to feed safe about sharing and putting up information about themselves. As for which one is better, I can't judge because people have different criteria when choosing which ones suit them more. It is like choosing which brand of clothing (Hollister or Abercrombie & Fitch) to buy while they both carry the same styles and from the same company.

i feel the same as you and noon do, i feel so outdated when it comes to social-networking sites, and at times i get so overwhelmed that i have a hard time even beginning the usage of any social-networking site.

yep, indeed there are many social networking sites. I think weather its facebook, myspace or something else they are all very similar. Also I don't think any of the sites are better than the other because they essentially do the same thing. Just depends on the users and what they want to use the sites for and than that can determine which site fits a specific person's needs.

Its true there are a lot of social networking sites out there and just like our class wiki has the same layout as wikipedia, a lot of social networking sites are set up the same way. For example, there is a Russian social networking site (odnoklassniki.ru)that looks EXACTLY like facebook, the only difference is its in russian, although people write in English, too. And it serves the same purpose you mentioned facebook serves except on an even larger scale. On facebook we can keep in touch with people from elementary schools and its cool how we can see whats going on in their lives and how people grew up. In Russia, from 1st to 10th grade (the last grade) you had the same people in your class every year so you knew your class very well. Thanks to this site, people that are now grown with kids & even grandkids can find their old classmates. It crazy because I know people who found each other on the site and it turned out they both moved to this country & they actually met up. I saw some profiles of some people I work with (who are 40+ years old) and they have old school black & white pictures as well as modern pics with their spouses and kids. I think that is the future of facebook...very interesting..
